STATUS:
Occurs throughout Coastal Plain and a portion of Ridge and Valley, where it is less frequently encountered. A turtle of semi-permanent shallow ponds, swamps, and borrow pits. Often moves on land, where it aestivates and sometimes overwinters under leaves. MODERATE CONSERVATION CONCERN.
