Distinguishing Characteristics:
- 2 leaf forms; subsurface leaves are very fine and feathery like M. spicatum; surface leaves are short leaves tightly whorled around the erect tip of the stem.
- Stem often dark red.
- Growth habit similar to M. spicatum.
