Fishing the Patsaliga Creek
The Patsaliga Creek is a coastal stream in southeast Alabama that is a tributary of the Conecuh River at Point A Reservoir. Patsaliga Creek begins in Crenshaw County and joins the Conecuh in Covington County. The stream was declared navigable in 1844, which means the bottom of the stream is public land. The Alabama Legislature declared the Patsalisa is navigable from "its mouth where it intersects the Conecuh River to the fork of the Big and Little Patsaliga Rivers."
This coastal river is sandy, and downed trees may frequently block the passage of boats. One upstream launch site is the "Hayslette Bridge" area, off County Road 59 and just south of the Crenshaw County line. The bank is steep, but accessible, with a canoe, kayak or small jon boat. A day float can be made from there to the Covington County boat ramp off Lindsey Loop Road, which is upstream of Barnes Bridge Road. This boat ramp is at the lower end of Patsaliga Creek and also services Point A Reservoir. The bank is stable with cypress trees lining this arm of the reservoir.
Patsaliga fishing is fair for bream numbers, with some surprisingly large specimens. Bluegill and longear sunfish are the most common sunfish, but a wide variety of species are present. Spotted bass are also present.
