There’s a new way to see the sights at Wind Creek Park – flying through the trees on the Alabama State Parks System’s newest zipline course.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting for Screaming Eagle Aerial Adventures at Wind Creek was Wednesday, where Alabama State Parks Director Greg Lein, Blake Lindsey of Screaming Eagle and Alexander City Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ed Collari showed off the new attraction.
“Historic Banning Mills is one of several concessionaires throughout the Alabama State Parks System that pays to construct, maintain and operate attractions at the parks,” Lein said. “No taxpayer dollars or funds from the State Parks budgets are used in the construction of these ecotourism and aerial adventures.
“We are happy to be partnering with Historic Banning Mills/American Adventure Park Systems to offer this adventure attraction at Wind Creek. The zipline course at Lake Guntersville State Park has been a visitor favorite and we feel certain our guests will really enjoy the 11 ziplines and seven sky walks that offer such wonderful views of the park and beautiful Lake Martin.”
Collari said he expects the new attraction to give the area an added tourism boost.
“Our community is blessed to have such a wonderful state park like Wind Creek in our backyard,” Collari said. “The park staff are excellent and adding a zipline course to all of the other park amenities like camping, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and archery is a huge win for all of the visitors to Wind Creek.”
Historic Banning Mills was chosen to build and operate the zipline canopy tours through a competitive bidding process.
“This is just another wonderful activity to enjoy at Wind Creek,” said park superintendent Bruce Adams. “Our campers and other visitors are eager to experience these outdoor adventures and we’re happy to work with excellent vendors like the people at Historic Banning Mills to bring new things to the park.”
The ziplines at Wind Creek range in length from 200 to 650 feet. The sky walks in the trees are from 20 to 70 feet in the air. Reservations must be made for riding the ziplines at 256-596-3081 with slots open daily at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
