Washington County State Public Fishing Lake

Washington County State Public Fishing Lake, also known as J. Emmett Wood Lake, is located 2 miles west of Millry, Alabama. This 84-acre lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, crappie, and channel catfish. Amenities include a boat ramp, fishing pier, and restrooms. A fishing license and State Public Fishing Lakes permit is required for ages 16 to 64. Licenses and permits are available from license agents located throughout the state, online, through the Outdoor AL mobile app, at county probate offices, or by calling (888) 848-6887.

The lake is located 2 miles west of Millry, Alabama. From Chatom, take Alabama Highway 17 north to Millry. Take a left on Healing Springs Avenue for 1.75 miles. Take a left on State Lake Road for three quarters of a mile to Washington County Lake.

Hours of Operation

Open sunrise to sunset during the following dates.

Open year-round: Thursdays through Mondays (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

Fish Species

Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish, and crappie.

Note: A catch-and-release regulation is currently in effect for largemouth bass.
