DeKalb County State Public Fishing Lake

DeKalb County State Public Fishing Lake is located on Sand Mountain 1 mile north of Sylvania, Alabama. This 120-acre lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish, and crappie. Amenities include a boat ramp, covered fishing piers, pavilions, restrooms, concessions, campsites, and boat rentals. A fishing license and State Public Fishing Lakes permit is required for ages 16 to 64. Licenses and permits are available from license agents located throughout the state, online, through the Outdoor AL mobile app, at county probate offices, or by calling (888) 848-6887.

The lake is located on Sand Mountain 1 mile north of Sylvania, Alabama. From Rainsville, take Alabama Highway 75 north for 6 miles. Take a left on County Road 27 for three quarters of a mile. Take a right on County Road 194 to DeKalb County Lake.

Hours of Operation

Open sunrise to sunset during the following dates.

• February 1 to June 30: Open six days each week (closed Wednesdays)
• July 1 to November 27: Closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
• November 28 to January 31: Closed

Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish, and crappie.

Licenses and Permits 

• Fishing license required for anglers ages 16 to 64
• $5 Fishing Permit required for anglers ages 12 and up (Includes launch of personal boat)
• $10 Boat Rental Permit (daily fishing permit also required)
• Fishing Licenses are available for purchase at the lake
