This painted Redstart was spotted on Dauphin Island in April 2011. For such a rarity in this part of the world it was very cooperative. It stayed in the same small area of the Audubon sanctuary after lunch last Saturday for at least two hours. This is only the second record of this species for the state of Alabama. The first record was from the 1970"s. Normally this bird is only found in a small part of Arizona and down in Mexico. Some of the experts seemed to think that it may have gotten blown this way by the storms that rolled through the night before.
