The Reserve’s research and monitoring program provides the scientific basis for addressing coastal management challenges as well as establishing a base line to monitor change over time. Over the years, Reserve research has informed management decisions on issues such as harmful algal blooms (HABs), fish kills, shoreline construction, sedimentation and nutrient loading. Reserve research and monitoring activities provide valuable information about estuarine resources to increase understanding and awareness of their importance to a variety of audiences including scientists, resource managers, educators, and the general public.
