What do lifetime licenses provide?

• A lifetime of hunting and fishing privilege in Alabama, even if the cost of the annual license increases.
• If your child or grandchild moves out of state, their lifetime privilege remains no matter how long they have been away or where they live.

Why is it essential to purchase sooner than later?

THE SAVINGS! The earlier you purchase their lifetime license, the more affordable it is for you, and it saves them thousands of dollars when purchasing an annual license over their lifetime. Your purchase also ensures wildlife and wild places are available for future generations.

What documents do you need to apply?

Minors applying for a lifetime license (0-15 years old) must provide all of the following documents based on age.

0-4 years of age:

• Birth Certificate
• Parent/Guardian's AL Driver's License
• Physician Statement, Daycare Record, or Alabama Tax Return (showing dependents) (Page 1, Dependent Schedule or equivalent list of dependents, Form 40 Part IV General Information or equivalent)

5-11 years of age:

• Birth Certificate
• Parent/Guardian's AL Driver's License
• School Record, Progress Report, or Report Card

12-15 years of age (without AL Driver's License or ID):

• Parent/Guardian's AL Driver's License
• School Record, Progress Report, or Report Card

Note: Hunter education is required to use a lifetime hunting license for every born on or after August 1, 1977. Hunter education is optional when purchasing a lifetime license.

Additional Information

Hunter Education: When your child or grandchild turns 16, they must complete hunter education to use the lifetime hunting license.

The purchase of a resident lifetime license DOES NOT include the following: 

• Harvest Information Program (HIP) (required of residents 16-64)
• Wildlife Management Area License (required of residents 16-64)
• Public Fishing Lakes Daily Permit (required of residents 12 and older)
• Saltwater Angler Registration (required of residents 16 and older)
• Annual Baiting Privilege (required of residents of all ages, no exemption)
• Annual Nighttime Feral Swine and/or Coyote (required of residents of all ages, no exemption)

HIP certification is required if you hunt migratory birds, even if you have a lifetime license. HIP is free and can be obtained anywhere licenses are sold or online through ADCNR’s license purchase system. 

If hunting deer or turkey on a state Wildlife Management Area (WMA), you must have an annual WMA license as well. You must also be in possession of the free permit/map for the WMA that you are hunting on.

As a lifetime freshwater fishing license holder, you only need a daily permit to fish any of ADCNR’s 23 State Public Fishing Lakes.

Saltwater Angler Registration is required for all residents who take, catch, kill, or possess fish or attempt to catch, kill or possess fish in the saltwater jurisdiction of Alabama – even those who have a lifetime saltwater license.

Lifetime license holders are not exempt from checking game and fish through ADCNR’s Game Check and Snapper Check systems. All game and fish species that are required to be checked must be entered into the Game Check and Snapper Check systems regardless of exempt, annual, or lifetime license status.

If hunting over bait, hunters who have a lifetime hunting license are required to purchase an annual baiting privilege.

If hunting feral swine and/or coyote at night, hunters who have a lifetime hunting license are required to purchase an annual nighttime feral swine and/or coyote hunting license.
