HABITAT:
Found in dense underbrush, bottomland hardwood forests, and a variety of other habitats, including old fields, upland forests, hammocks, and swamps.
FEEDING HABITS:
This opportunistic omnivore consumes insects, spiders, slugs, and snails, but also eats seeds and fungi.
LIFE HISTORY AND ECOLOGY:
Breeds year-round, except for summertime. Gestation period lasts for about 23 days, with litter size averaging four.
