This class for women and takes place at DeSoto State Park. It will center around teaching participants the basic skills need to backpack. This includes pitching and striking camp, fire craft, water processing, proper camping etiquettes, food and bear safety, and map-reading basics.
There are different sleeping options to try: tent, hammock, or shelter. Instructor will also demonstrate making your own backpacking food and cooking on the campfire.
Hiking is moderate, about 4 ½ miles round trip.
Meet at DeSoto’s Nature Center, next to the Country Store on County Road 89.
Cost: $85.00 per person–includes all food and supplies.
