Montgomery, Ala. - On National Veterans Day, Monday, November 12, 2007 all Alabama State Parks will waive park entrance fees for all veterans as a way of honoring all living Americans who served their country in a branch of the U.S. Military. Anyone who indicates they are a veteran will be admitted into the park day use areas without charge on Monday only. No identification will be required.

Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner M. Barnett Lawley said, “This is just a small tribute to those who have helped give us the freedom to enjoy our way of life.”

The 22 Alabama State Parks are located across Alabama, from the mountain ranges of the north to the pristine waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Par offerings include comfortable accommodations, camping, golfing, fishing, boating, hiking and biking, swimming, and much more.

Alabama State Parks charge day use permits or park entrance fees to enter day use or picnic areas in 15 of the 22 state parks. The revenue from the fees is used to pay the cost of park operation. The fees range from $ .50 to $1.00 for senior citizens age 62 and older, disabled persons and children age 6 to 12. The fees for adults, age 13 and above, range from 1.00 to 3.00. The fees are based on the available facilities located in the various parks.
