Strickland Appointed to Conservation Advisory Board

March 25, 2005

Dr. Warren Strickland of Huntsville has been selected by Governor Bob Riley to serve on the Alabama Conservation and Natural Resources Advisory Board representing the Fifth Congressional District. The appointment becomes effective May 21, 2005 and will expire on May 20, 2011. Dr. Strickland replaces Marvin Willis of Killen whose term ends May 20.

Dr. Strickland is recognized as one of the country’s top bow hunters. Originally from Dermott, Arkansas, where he began bow hunting at age 12, he has been the featured hunter on many national outdoors television programs and is also an authority on the subject of wilderness medicine and survival. A cardiologist with The Heart Center, PC, in Huntsville, Dr. Strickland spends time away from his profession promoting hunting and fishing with the Boy Scouts and other organizations.

The Conservation Advisory Board assists and advises on matters relating to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The Board is composed of 10 members appointed by the governor for alternating terms of six years, and three ex-officio members in the persons of the Governor, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and the Director of the Cooperative Extension System. The Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources serves as the ex-officio secretary of the Board.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
