Conservation Advisory Board to Meet March 12 at Joe Wheeler State Park

The second 2005 meeting of the Conservation Advisory Board will be Saturday, March 12, at
“We feel that adding a third meeting and varying the meeting site will allow more access for individuals who want to express their opinions on matters of concern,” said Advisory Board Chairman Dan Moultrie. “And it also allows the Board members to have more time to study the proposals before voting on them.”
Only items presented for discussion in the February meeting may be voted on during the March meeting.
“By moving the timetable earlier, decisions concerning game and fish regulations will be finalized earlier, allowing more time to print WMA schedules and permits, the Official Hunting and Fishing Digest, and other pertinent material,” said Barnett Lawley, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. “The new procedures will ensure greater public input and will also allow the Advisory Board to have more time to make informed decisions.”
The Conservation Advisory Board assists and advises on matters relating to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The Board is composed of 10 members appointed by the governor for alternating terms of six years, and three ex-officio members in the persons of the Governor, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and the Director of the Cooperative Extension System. The Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources serves as the ex-officio secretary of the Board.
