Conservation Advisory Board to Meet February 12 in Montgomery

The Conservation Advisory Board will meet February 12 in Montgomery at the State Capitol Auditorium. Registration for those wishing to address the board will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

Attendees should enter the Capitol from Union Street, which offers the only access on Saturdays. Because of Capitol rules, everyone will pass through metal detectors.

Although this will be a non-voting meeting with hunting seasons and bag limits for 2005-2006 as main topic of discussion, Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley said that attendees may speak on any issue. “This is a chance for the citizens of Alabama to make their views known to the board on a variety of issues,” he said. “The Conservation Advisory Board has made a commitment to providing the public with additional opportunities to hear their concerns, and this meeting will provide that outlet,” Lawley added.

The Conservation Advisory Board assists and advises on matters relating to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The Board is composed of 10 members appointed by the governor for alternating terms of six years, and three ex-officio members in the persons of the Governor, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and the Director of the Cooperative Extension System. The Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources serves as the ex-officio secretary of the Board.
