The Alabama State Parks Division is planning a controlled burn on 30 acres of Lakepoint Resort State Park property to control competing vegetation and reduce fuel in several zones that have been thinned. The burn is scheduled for a time frame beginning October 2, 2008, weather permitting, and closing October 8, 2008, if necessary. Every effort is being made to ensure safety and proper smoke management during the burn period.
As land managers, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources State Parks Division wishes to achieve several short- and long-range objectives relating to the burn. Stimulation of historical groundcover, wildlife habitat enhancement and the elimination of competing species of vegetation are of primary concern.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
